"CASA DO DESIGN" HOSTS EXHIBITION ABOUT THE LAST 50 YEARS OF NATIONAL FASHION.

Today at Married DESIGN, in Matosinhos, opens the exhibition “Portugal Pop - Fashion in Portuguese. 1970-2020”.
curated by Bárbara Coutinho, the exhibition presents the last 50 years of Portuguese fashion history, from the eve of revolution of 25 april of 1974 until today, in a “work that represented two and a half years of research”.
“The goal is to generate debates about fashion culture in Portugal and its cultural, economic and social value in an intergenerational and, therefore, democratic retrospective”, explains Bárbara Coutinho.
From music to shows, from traditional crafts to sustainability, the selection of almost 200 outfits includes pieces worn by Amália Rodrigues, Antonio Variações, Candy, Heroes of the Sea, the gift, Joana Vasconcelos, Conan Osiris or Claudia Pascoal.
On display are proposals from around 40 designers from different generations, backgrounds and languages, such as Alexandra Moura, Alves / Gonçalves, Constança Shrovetide, Dino Alves, Helena Cardoso, Filipe Augusto, Jose Carlos, Luís Buchinho, Maria Gambina, Maria-Thereza Mimoso, Miguel Flor, Nuno Gama, storytailors, among others.
The exhibition is divided into three thematic axes: Collective Memory and National Identity; Personal territories: intersubjectivity in the 1th person singular; Eco-logical: anthropology of places, matters and knowledge.

“Portugal Pop- Fashion in Portuguese. 1970-2020” results from a co-production between Matosinhos City Council / esad-idea, Research in DESIGN and Art and the Lisbon City Council / MUDE – Museum of DESIGN and fashion, Francisco Capelo Collection, under the program CHANGE OUT OF DOORS.
