MARIA JOÃO CUNHA – NEW TALENT
Maria João Cunha is licensed in DESIGN of Fashion in ESAD of Matosinhos and it was in this last year of his degree that he came first in the competition Portuguese Fashion News, a project promoted by ASM which has as its instrument the international dissemination of the best that is done in the National Fashion Sector.
In this 50th edition of Portugal Fashion presented the collection "Open window" inspired by the writer's phrase Mia Couto “If I were a house, I would choose to be a window. Because the window is of the house what it is not, the void where it dreams of being the world.” To be able to create these open windows to the world in her pieces, Maria João Cunha used a fabric manipulation technique that she learned in Barcelona when he did Erasmus. “It's a machine-made technique that I call combs, because they remind me of honeycombs."
In our store THE - Harbor an installation was created with these pieces from the parade as part of our project THE ART MUST GO ON which reinforces the importance of creativity, critical reflection and the transversality of art.
For around 10 years, we have developed an extensive collaboration with Artists, Designers and Architects, involving them and challenging them to show in THE their works.
